In Superfly:
the Untold Story of
Frank Lucas,
American Gangster,
authors Ron Chepesiuk and Anthony Gonzalez takes the reader to
the underbelly of the American crime world and delivers an
intimate look at the notorious ‘’crime entrepreneurs’, where
Frank "Superfly" Lucas and his cohorts reside.
In a
storytelling style, the authors takes the reader behind the
headlines, right into the action – from ‘’business’‘ deals and
drug deals to the police raids and jail time. He lets the reader
"experience" the life of Superfly. By using various sources –
from retired judges and law enforcement offers to gangsters
– the authors weave an incredible story of how Superfly managed
to live the high life, while dodging police and building a crime
empire. Lucas dated beautiful women (like the daughter of
baseball’s famous Willie May), survived many scandals and
managed to often get acquittals from what appear to be,
slam-dunk charges.
But
throughout the book, Chepesiuk and Gonzalez peel away at what is
the hyped-up legend of Superfly and what is really the truth
about
Frank Lucas,
American gangster. The authors craftily builds the case, then
throws a zinger with new revelations about Superfly from one of
America’s biggest gangsters.
Fast-paced, well-written book. A fascinating
page-turner about a slice of gangster history you won’t find
anywhere else.
